"The Sun Just Had a Nasty Day" by Denise Rodgers
The sun just had a nasty day,
refused to smile or shine.
It stayed behind the dark gray clouds,
a mottled, grim design.
But shortly after dinner time
one ray poked though the gray,
a spark of golden yellow warmth
reminding us of day.
If you want to please us, Sun,
(don't take this as a warning)
if you're going to pierce the clouds,
please do it in the morning.

This poem uses personification to describe a cloudy day and tries to describe how the sun might be feeling. "The sun just had a nasty day," makes it seem like the sun is having human feelings. "Refused to smile or shine," the sun must be feeling mad and that's why it won't come out and shine.
The reason I picked this poem is because I liked it and it uses personification quite clearly. It also put a clear image of a cloudy day in my mind with the sun trying to come out from behind the clouds. The picture I picked is of a unhappy sun, I picked it because everyone has bad days even the sun. And when it is stormy out it is when the sun is having a bad day. By using personification in this poem it made the sun relate more to humans. This made it more enjoyable and easier to understand.
